On the New York Times front page, they have a picture of Saddam Hussein's hanging. I'm not sure what to think about an old, scraggly, ex-dictator being hanged, along with his brother, for the death of 148 Iraqis. This isn't to say that what he did was excusable or acceptable, but I almost feel like his entire situation has been turned into one giant circus sideshow. Sure, it's been fun hearing stories of Mr. Hussein learning recipes and tending to his herb garden while in prison, but his death is so anti-climactic that it almost makes me wonder if it was worth killing him at all.
In reality, President Bush has killed more Iraqis than Saddam could have ever dreamed of. The Iraqi Death Toll is approaching 650,000, over 4000x as many as Saddam is being hanged for. However, the money used to kill those 148 people did come from US funding, so we may as well group them together. Man, democracy tastes so good.
What I did notice in the picture that was posted in the Times were the men that actually ran the hanging of Saddam. There were four men, and they all were wearing black ski masks. Who are these men? What are their lives like? I want to know so much about these men. Think about it, they are responsible for the termination of one of the most controversial people of the 21st/20th century. I wonder if these men told their wives, their children, or their friends. Are they allowed to? I'd like to think in my own little world that these men all woke up, ate some breakfast, and said to themselves, "Well, I guess I gotta go hang Saddam now." These men are now the major attraction on every major news source in the US.
Moral of the Story: If you want to be famous, but avoid paparazzi, hang a dictator.

wow . . . this has got to be the greatest amount of thought you've given to any subject. ever. . . that aside, i'm going to have to disgree and say that saddam's execution is not at all anti-climactic. that is all. find me if you disagree.
